Quick answer: An infused blunt is cannabis flower rolled in a thick blunt wrap with an added cannabis concentrate, such as kief, hash, distillate, live resin, rosin or THCA diamonds. Three things set it apart: a bigger, slower-burning format than a joint, a higher THC content than flower alone, and a tobacco-free wrap, because legal cannabis products in Canada can’t contain nicotine. Infused blunts are best for experienced consumers and for sharing. Start with a puff or two and wait before having more.
Blunts have always been the big, slow, social option in the pre-roll world. Infused blunts take that format and add concentrate, so they hit harder and often taste richer than a regular blunt. Here’s what’s actually inside one, how they compare to other pre-rolls, and how to enjoy one without overdoing it.
Where Blunts Come From
The name comes from inexpensive cigars that people hollowed out and refilled with cannabis. The tobacco leaf gave blunts their thick wrap, slow burn and distinctive flavour. Legal cannabis blunts in Canada keep the shape and the slow pace but swap the tobacco for wraps that are often made from hemp. The Ontario Cannabis Store describes a blunt as cannabis “rolled in a thicker, cigar-like wrap, often made of hemp.” For the full background, see our guide to pre-rolled blunts.
What Makes a Blunt “Infused”?
Every infused blunt has three layers:
- The wrap: thicker and broader than rolling paper, so it burns slowly and holds more. In the legal market it’s tobacco-free.
- The flower: ground cannabis that sets the base flavour, aroma and effects.
- The infusion: a concentrate added inside the roll, coated on the outside, or both. Where it’s placed changes how evenly it burns and how quickly the intensity builds.
Infused Blunts vs. Other Pre-Rolls
| Format | Wrap | Contents | Burn | Typical potency | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joint | Thin paper (rice, hemp, wood pulp) | Flower | Fast and clean | Same as the flower | Solo sessions, tasting a strain |
| Infused pre-roll | Thin paper | Flower plus concentrate | Medium, can run | Higher than flower | Experienced consumers who want a stronger joint |
| Blunt | Thick blunt wrap | Flower | Slow | Same as the flower, but usually more of it | Sharing, long sessions |
| Infused blunt | Thick blunt wrap | Flower plus concentrate | Slow, needs attention | Highest of the four | Experienced groups |
Our guide to infused pre-rolls vs. regular ones covers the paper-wrapped side in more depth, and rolling papers vs. blunts vs. pre-rolls compares the basics.
The Concentrates Used in Infused Blunts
| Infusion | What it is | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Kief | Loose, powdery trichomes sifted from flower | A moderate potency boost with a classic, earthy taste |
| Hash | Kief or trichomes pressed into a solid | Richer, spicier smoke and more potency |
| Distillate | Highly refined THC oil | A strong potency boost with little flavour of its own |
| Live resin | Extract made from fresh-frozen cannabis | Bold aroma and flavour that tastes close to the living plant |
| Rosin | Solventless extract made with heat and pressure | Rich, terpene-forward flavour |
| THCA diamonds | Crystalline, very high-purity cannabinoid | The biggest potency jump |

What the Numbers on the Label Mean
Flower-only pre-rolls usually list Total THC somewhere in the high teens to mid-twenties (percent). Infused products often list much higher numbers, sometimes in milligrams per gram (mg/g) instead. Two quick conversions help:
- Percent to mg/g: multiply by 10. So 20% THC is 200 mg/g, and 400 mg/g is 40%.
- Total THC in the product: multiply mg/g by the weight. A 1 g blunt at 20% has about 200 mg of THC in it; a 1 g infused blunt at 400 mg/g has about 400 mg, roughly twice as much.
You won’t absorb all of that when you smoke, and much of it burns off between puffs, but the comparison tells you how much stronger one product is than another. Blunts also often weigh more than a standard joint, so check the net weight too. Our weed measurements guide explains grams and sizes.
Choosing an Infused Blunt
- For flavour: look for live resin or rosin infusions.
- For a classic, mellow boost: kief or hash.
- For maximum strength: distillate or diamonds, and only if you already know your tolerance.
- For freshness: check the packaged-on date. Fresher usually means better aroma.

How to Smoke an Infused Blunt
- Start small. Take one or two puffs, then wait 10 to 15 minutes. Inhaled effects start within minutes and can peak around 30 minutes.
- Light it evenly. Toast the tip while rotating, so the whole end catches before your first draw.
- Use gentle draws. Hard pulls overheat the concentrate and can make the burn run.
- Fix canoeing early. If one side burns faster, touch the flame to the slow side and rotate between puffs. Our king size joint guide has more even-burn tips.
- Share it. Infused blunts are made for groups. Pass it, and make sure everyone is 19+.
- Save the rest. Let it go out, cool completely, and store it sealed. Flavour may change a bit when you relight it.

Storing Infused Blunts
Keep them in their tube or an airtight container, somewhere cool and dark. Heat can soften sticky concentrates and dry out the flower, so don’t leave them in a hot car. Our guide on the right humidity for cannabis explains how to keep flower fresh.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an infused blunt?
An infused blunt is cannabis flower rolled in a thick blunt wrap with an added concentrate, such as kief, hash, distillate, live resin, rosin or THCA diamonds.
Are infused blunts stronger than regular blunts?
Usually, yes. The added concentrate raises the total THC above what the flower alone would have, so start with fewer puffs than you would with a regular blunt.
Do legal blunts in Canada contain tobacco?
No. Legal cannabis products in Canada can’t contain nicotine, so legal blunts use tobacco-free wraps, often made from hemp.
Are infused blunts good for beginners?
Not usually. They’re better for people who already know their tolerance. Beginners are better off starting with a flower-only joint or a small pre-roll.
Why does my infused blunt burn unevenly?
The thick wrap and sticky concentrate can burn at different rates. Light the tip evenly, take gentle draws, and rotate it between puffs to keep the burn straight.
